Roots tuberous; rhizome spreading, c. 5 mm diam. Stems numerous, unbranched, to 1 m high. Leaves numerous, oblanceolate, flat with a twisted petiole, 7–11 cm long, 10–20 mm wide. Inflorescence erect, branched, loose; flowers numerous, broadly funnel-shaped, golden yellow to orange; sepals spathulate, 3.5–4 cm long; petals oblanceolate, as long as sepals but narrower, the posterior pair heavily streaked reddish brown, anterior one less so; stamens and trifid style subequal to perianth segment Capsule 1–1.5 cm long. Seeds numerous. Flowers Jan.–Feb.
