Autoicous. Plants gregarious. Stems simple or branched, 0.5–1.5 mm long. Leaves toward stem apex subulate from an ovate base, subula equal to twice as long as base, ovate-lanceolate with a short subula at stem base; apex subulate; costa subpercurrent, filling subula toward apex; margins weakly denticulate near apex, mostly unistratose, occasionally bistratose near apex of subula; laminal cells of subula base irregularly hexagonal, rhomboid or rectangular. Seta 1–3 mm long. Capsule cleistocarpous, long tapering neck ±equal to urn, 1–1.5 mm long, orange. Operculum rostrate from conic base.
HNF, VAlp. Rarely recorded from bare wet soil in the alpine and subalpine zone of the Bogong High Plains and Baw Baw Plateau. Also NSW.
