Leaves erect spreading, sessile, linear-terete, rarely flat (in Victoria). Flowers solitary in axils (in Victoria); calyx shallowly lobed. Female flowers with globular ovary, carpels 1–30, stigmas 1–4 mm long. Fruit spherical; carpels ovoid or obovoid, dehiscent along outer margin; seed attached at base or centre of column.
12 species in southern, arid Australia, 1 extending to Tasmania.
