Bartramia subsymmetrica
CardotDioicous. Cushions on rocks and soil, golden-yellow. Stems 2–10 cm long, with moderately dense reddish brown rhizoids at base and at intervals. Leaves erect to erecto-patent when moist, erect and appressed to slightly flexuose when dry, with an obcuneate hyaline sheathing base and triangular green upper lamina, (2.5–) 2.7–4.3 (–5.25) mm long, 0.6–1.1 (–1.5) mm wide; apices subulate; margins denticulate, plane, without a distinct border; laminal cells of subula linear, (12–) 15–28 (–30) μm long, 4–7 μm wide, unistratose, prorate; laminal cells of sheathing base linear, (82–) 94–170 (–174) μm long, 7–26 μm wide, hyaline. Setae 12–25 mm long, smooth. Capsules erect or suberect, ±globose, 1.7–2.4 mm long. Peristome single, of short fragile segments.
VAlp. In the alpine zone on the Bogong High Plains and neighbouring Mount Hotham. Also NSW. Argentina and South Georgia Island.
In Australia this species was previously recognised as the endemic B. bogongia Catches., but was placed in synonymy with B. subsymmetrica by Fransén (2004).
