Bryum radiculosum
Brid.Dioicous. Asexual reproduction by sparse brown or red, globose rhizoidal tubers. Dense tufts on mortar of walls, limestone and calcareous soil, pale green to reddish green. Stems 3–10 mm long, covered near base with red-brown rhizoids. Leaves erect-spreading when moist, more erect and narrowed when dry, ovate-lanceolate, 1–2 mm long; apex acute or acuminate; costa excurrent as a hairpoint; hairpoint yellow or sometimes reddish when old; margin serrulate toward apex or entire, revolute toward base, without a border; laminal cells in apical half 40–60 μm long, 10–12 μm wide, slightly longer and wider at margin; basal laminal cells quadrate. Seta 10–20 mm long, red. Capsules ovate-cylindric to ellipsoid, 2–3 mm long. Operculum low-conic.
Recorded from Trentham Falls in the central highlands. Also WA, NT, SA and QLD. New Zealand, Europe, Macaronesia, northern Africa, the Caribbean, North America and Japan.
