Symphytum officinale subsp. officinale
Spreading to erect, 30–120 cm high; stems winged by decurrent leaf-bases. Leaves sparsely pilose on both surfaces, apex acute to attenuate, margins entire, flat; rosette leaves ovate-lanceolate, 15–25 cm long, 2–10 cm wide, long-petioled; cauline leaves smaller, oblong-lanceolate, sessile, bases decurrent. Flowers on pedicels to c. 8 mm long; sepals lanceolate-subulate, 5–8 mm long, acute, connate in basal third or less; corolla 15–17 mm long, glabrous, yellowish-white, sometimes purplish or pink, lobes very small, tips recurved, throat scales lanceolate-subulate, scarcely longer than stamens; anthers 3–4 mm long. Mericarps 4–5 mm long, attached to gynobase by a swollen annular ring, shiny, black. Flowers spring.
HSF. Currently known with certainty only from the Mt Hotham and Mt Tingaringy areas but possibly more widespread and overlooked.
