Riccardia rupicola
(Steph.) HewsonDioicous. Gemmae occasionally produced dorsally near apex. Forming turves. Thallus 2–3-pinnate with pinnae close together and thallus appearing palmate, 5–15 mm long, 0.4–1 mm wide, plane dorsally and convex ventrally or biconvex in transverse section, with acute margins, 4–8 cells thick, with a shallow notch at apex not overtopped by growth and with non-persistent ventral mucilage papillae, with a smooth cuticle. Oil bodies 1 (–2) per cell, some cells without oil bodies. Calyptra 2–4 mm long, with pachydermal cells scattered along calyptra and forming a rough cap of loosely aggregated cells near apex.
GleP, VVP, OtR, VAlp. Rare in Victoria, on logs in rainforest and wet sclerophyll forest near Portland, the Otways, Yarra Ranges, near Mt Baw Baw, and the Errinundra Plateau. Also, Queensland, New South Wales and Tasmania.
