Andreaea subulata
Harv. ex Hook.Dioicous. Loose tufts on rocks. Stems 5–20 mm long. Leaves falcate-secund to almost circinate when moist or dry, long-subulate from elliptic to oblong base, 1–2.5 (–3) mm long, 0.3–0.5 mm wide, concave and sheathing at base; apices narrowly acute or acuminate; costae extending to apex, distinct, c. 1/3 width of leaf at base; margins entire, incurved; cells in apical half rounded-quadrate, 5–7.5 μm long, 5–10 μm wide, smooth, bistratose or bistratose in patches; cells at base rectangular near costa, mostly isodiametric near margin, sometimes wider than long, 3.5–25 μm long, 5–11.5 μm wide. Perigonial paraphyses present. Perichaetial leaves convolute and sheathing, to 3.5 mm long. Pseudopodia 2–3 mm long. Capsules 0.75–1.2 mm long. Turgid spores 29–42 μm diameter; shrivelled spores 20–38 μm diameter.
GGr, HSF, HNF, HFE, VAlp. Recorded from the Grampians, the Baw Baw Plateau, Mount Buffalo, the Bogong High Plains, the Cobberas and Mount Ellery, usually on exposed rocks or beside creeks in mountainous areas in the alpine zone or among woodland at lower altitude down to 400 metres. Also NSW, ACT and Tas. Macquarie, Auckland, Campbell, and Falkland Islands, Borneo, Madagascar, Africa, South America.
