Riccardia aequicellularis
(Steph.) HewsonDioecious. Gemmae occasionally present. In dense mats on rock, soil or logs. Thallus 2–3-pinnate, (0.1–) 0.2–1 (–2) cm long, (0.1–) 0.2–0.5 (–0.6) mm wide, elliptic to biconvex in transverse section, with obtuse to acute lateral edges, (4–) 5–7 (–8) cells thick, not notched at growing apex, with smooth cuticle. Oil bodies only in epidermal cells, 1 (–2) per cell. Calyptra 1–2 mm long, capped at apex with pachydermal cells in the form of an appressed series of cilia-like cells.
GleP, VVP, OtP, CVU, EGL, WPro, HSF, HNF, OtR, Strz, VAlp. Widespread and common in fast-flowing streams along and south of the Great Dividing Range. Also, New South Wales, Tasmania, Macquarie Island and New Zealand.
