Rosulabryum torquescens
(Bruch ex De Not.) J.R.SpencePolyoicous. Asexual reproduction by globose, red or orange rhizoidal tubers. Loose or dense tufts, green to reddish green, 10–25 mm tall. Rhizoids bright red to brown. Leaves erect-spreading when moist, spirally twisted around stem when dry, ovate, obovate or spathulate, plane or concave; apex mucronate or cuspidate; costa excurrent as a mucro or hairpoint; margin toothed, recurved, with elongate cells forming a distinct border; laminal cells in apical half narrowly hexagonal, 30–55 μm long, 13–22 μm wide; basal laminal cells narrowly rectangular. Seta 20–40 mm long. Capsule pendulous, cylindric, 3–5 mm long, symmetric, red or reddish brown.
LoM, MuM, Brid, VVP, GipP, WaP, Gold, CVU, GGr, EGL, HSF, HFE. Throughout Victoria in woodland, wet sclerophyll forest, riparian forest, heathland or beside swamps. Also WA, SA, NSW, ACT and Tas. On all continents except Antarctica, mostly in warm-temperate to subtropical regions.
