Herb 4–20 cm tall. Corm 1–1.5 cm diam. Leaf solitary, linear, trailing, 20–60 cm long, 1–2 mm wide. Inflorescence with scape 2–5 cm long, with 2 to several 4–6-flowered clusters. Perianth spreading, pale lilac to pale blue, often spotted with purple; outer perianth with a central orange mark. Style branches 3, petaloid, stigmas divided, transverse, extending into a narrow terminal crest. Flowers Sep.–Nov.
LoM, MuM, Wim, GleP, VVP, VRiv, RobP, MuF, GipP, OtP, Gold, CVU, DunT, NIS. Occurs in disturbed areas (e.g. roadsides), native grasslands, and sometimes as a weed of pastures, usually in sandy soil.
Flowers usually only last about 1 day.
