Dense, bushy shrubs to c. 1.5 m high; young stems white tomentose, older stems leafless. Leaves ascending to appressed to stem, imbricate, linear to narrow-lanceolate, (2–)3–4.5(–10) mm long, 0.5–0.8 mm diam., grey-green, involute, distinctly keeled, upper surface tomentose. Inflorescence a subterminal spike, 10–16-flowered; bract leaf-like, wider than leaves. Floral tube and sepals yellow or reddish, c. 6 mm long, sparsely tomentose; anthers exserted. Fruit dry, c. 2.6 mm long. Flowers Oct. (1 record).
Native to South Africa.
Recorded once in Victoria (in 1908) at Coode Island, probably arriving as a ballast waif that has apparently not persisted.
