(Lindl.) Raf Spring Star FlowerTufted, garlic-odoured plant, to c.30 cm high. Bulb broadly ovoid, c. 1–2 cm long. Leaves linear, flat, 10–35 cm long, 5–8 mm wide, thin-textured. Inflorescence erect, 1-flowered; flower bluish-purple fading to almost white, exserted beyond spathe; corolla funnel-shaped, 20–30 mm long, tubular below, lobes free and spreading in upper half; stamens alternately long and short, the longer ones exceeding corolla tube, the shorter included within tube. Capsule cylindrical, c. 10 mm long; seeds obovoid, c. 2 mm long, testa pitted. Flowers Aug.–Sep.
Wim, VVP, GipP, Gold, CVU, DunT. Also naturalised in WA, SA, NSW. Native to Argentina, cultivated in southern Australia as a spring bulb. Doubtfully naturalised in Victoria, represented in MEL by several pre-1920 collections from Wycheproof and Melbourne areas (but these possibly of garden origin). It is generally marketed under the generic name Triteleia.
