Procumbent or weakly ascending subshrub to 60 cm high, 1.6 m diam. or more, appearing greyish from a dense covering of a mixture of bladder-hairs and linear to fusiform, medifixed hairs. Leaves obovate-spathulate, 4–25 mm long, 2–18 mm wide, flat or slightly folded, the rounded to broadly acute apex often slightly recurved. Perianth segments 5, free, 2–3 mm long, largely covered on outer surface with basifixed and medifixed hairs, glabrous and white or pink within; stamens slightly shorter than perianth segments; styles 5, c. half as long as perianth segments. Capsule cup-shaped, strongly 5-angled, concave at summit, 2–3 mm long and wide; seed semicircular, c. 1.5 mm long, dark red-brown, with tubercles in rows along the dorsal angle.  Flowers Oct.–Apr.

*CVU, *EGU, *GipP, *Gold, *HSF, *MuF, *MuM, *OtP, *VRiv, *VVP, *WaP, *Wim. Also naturalised WA, NT, SA, NSW, Tas. Common in coastal areas in the Melbourne and Geelong areas, growing on beach sand and the hinterland; occasional in dryish, often somewhat saline areas in the north and north-west, scattered on open wasteland (railyards, roadsides etc.) elsewhere.
