Perennial subshrub, branched from near base, to c. 20 cm high, younger branches densely covered with short, white to pale brown, cottony hairs. Leaves linear to semi-terete, 5–10 mm long, densely covered with fine, semi-appressed hairs. Tube of fruiting perianth c. 2 mm high, sparsely pubescent, adaxially concave, centrally attached at base, attachment circular; limb erect, c. 1 mm high, densely hairy; spines 2, divergent, ascending in the same (or very nearly the same) vertical plane (laying flat on a flat surface), 4–7 mm long, with or without a few straight hairs in the lower part, one spine with a short tubercle at its base Fruits mainly Aug.–Nov.
