Adelanthus falcatus
(Hook.) Mitt.Plants olive-green, lithophytic. Specialised asexual propagules absent. Leafy stems black, erect and cernuous at apex; branches usually emerging from ventral side of stem and ventral bases of lateral leaves, rarely emerging laterally and associated with a modified narrower leaf. Leaves orbicular-ovate to reniform-ovate, 625–1520 μm long, 550–1650 μm wide, ventrally secund, with few to numerous unequal teeth, reduced leaves near stem base entire; laminal cells quadrate or oblong, 10 –25 μm long, 10–15 μm wide, firm-walled, those toward margins tending to be arranged in concentric arcs, those near central base more elongate and 15–58 μm long, 10–23 μm wide, some with intermediate thickenings and more prominent trigones, with 6–9 oil bodies in cells toward leaf centre; oil bodies grey, globose, crescentic, ellipsoid or linear, without clear ornamentation. Perigynium c. 2.7 mm long, c. 0.95 mm wide. Bracts orbicular-ovate, unlobed or 2–3-lobed, serrulate to ciliate, scattered on perigynium base. Capsule ellipsoid, 4–6-stratose. Spores vermiculate.
HSF, VAlp. Confirmed in 2023 for Victoria from boulders in montane Nothofagus cunninghamii rainforest on the south slopes of Mount Erica. Also, New South Wales, Tasmania and New Zealand.
