Flowers usually solitary, terminal. Perianth-lobes in 2 whorls of 3; inner 3 lobes sometimes joined apically and so resembling a mitre in shape; stamens 6; ovary 1-locular; style short and thick, stigmas 3, simple or 2-lobed. Fruit usually fleshy, apically with a thick ring of perianth-lobe bases, style and stigmas persistent.
About 25 species, only Thismia rodwayi occurring in Victoria.
