Lejeunea flava
(Sw.) Nees.Pale yellow-green patches on branches, autoicous. Specialised asexual propagules absent. Leaves imbricate, 310–580 μm long, 260–440 μm wide, directed slightly in direction of stem apex; lobes elliptic, rounded at apex, lobe extending to beyond opposite edge of stem dorsally and completely obscuring stem from above, entire to slightly repand, diverging from the curve of keel at intersection on a line c. perpendicular to stem and almost never descending in direction of stem base below level of keel apex; lobule ovoid, 140–175 μm long, 95–105 μm wide, inflated, with tooth furthest from stem directed c. parallel to stem, always composed of a single non-elongate cell, with an outwardly bulging keel with marginal cells also bulging. Leaf cells rounded polygonal to oblong, thick-walled, with distinct and occasionally confluent trigones and often with intermediate thickenings, punctulate, with 5–12 granular spherical, ellipsoid or ovoid oil bodies, 17–35 μm long, 14–23 μm wide away from margin, smaller along margin where 9–18 μm long, 9–13 μm wide. Underleaves broadly ovate in outline, 185–340 μm long, 160–310 μm wide, mostly contiguous to imbricate, with margins near base usually extending beyond point of attachment in direction of stem base; lobes 0.4–0.45 the length of underleaf, bluntly pointed to acute, separated by a narrowly V-shaped or ligulate sinus with a rounded base. Perianth pyriform, 750–825 μm long, 375–425 μm wide, distinctly 5-keeled, with a cylindric beak at apex 2–4 cell tiers long, with apical tier composed of slightly more elongated cells.
Recorded in Victoria east of Mallacoota on fallen branches beside a creek in warm temperate rainforest at the base of a deep gully. Also, New South Wales and Queensland and all continents except Antarctica.
