Gladiolus undulatus
L. Wild GladiolusCorm with outer layers fibrous; numerous subterranean bulbils often produced. Stem unbranched, with 1 or 2 reduced leaves. Basal leaves 3–6, linear-ensiform, 0.5–1.5 cm wide, flat, with several prominent veins. Inflorescence with flowers distichous, rarely secund, 3–8-flowered. Flowers funnel-shaped, white to cream-coloured with a blue-green tinge. Perianth tube 5–7 cm long, slightly curved; lobes with margin undulate, sub-equal, spreading to recurved; adaxial lobe sometimes larger and slightly hooded. Anthers 7–8 mm long. Style branches equal to, or slightly exceeding anthers. Flowers Nov.–Jan.
Wim, GleP, VVP, VRiv, GipP, OtP, WaP, Gold, CVU, GGr, DunT, NIS, EGL, HSF, HNF, VAlp. Also naturalised in WA, SA, NSW, Tas. Native to southern Africa. Widespread and locally abundant in cooler districts. A troublesome weed of winter-wet pasture and grassy road-verges.
