Pandorea
Woody climbers, rarely shrubs. Leaves imparipinnate, tendrils absent. Inflorescences upper-axillary or terminal thyrses, sometimes reduced to racemes. Flowers pedicellate; calyx campanulate or cup-shaped, shallowly lobed; corolla tubular, 2-lipped; corolla-lobes imbricate in bud; stamens 4, in 2 pairs of unequal length, usually included in corolla-tube. Fruit a loculicidal capsule, stipitate, beaked; seeds many, flat, more or less circular, surrounded by a thin wing.
6 species from Australia, Malesia and New Caledonia; 4 species in Australia.
Willis (1973, p. 578) records P. jasminoides (Lindl.) K. Schum. as ‘growing spontaneously’ along Gladstone Ck near Briagolong, but this occurrence is most likely the result of an escape from cultivation rather than a natural occurrence. This robust woody climber has large white or pink flowers with a red throat and occurs in rainforests of northern New South Wales and Queensland. It is commonly grown in Victoria as a fence- or trellis-vine.
