Pterostylis uliginosa
D.L.JonesFlowering plant 10–15 cm tall (elongating to c. 25 cm in fruit), stem fleshy, widening upwards, stem leaves 3 or 4, closely sheathing. Rosette leaves 3–8, ovate to elliptic-ovate, 0.5–1.6 cm long, 0.4–0.9 cm wide, petiolate, dark green, margins flat, 1–3 rosettes arising laterally on the mature plant. Flowers 1–7, erect, 6–7.5 mm long, green and white, shiny, narrow, on plump fleshy ovaries; galea erect in the basal half, curved forwards in the distal half; dorsal sepal blunt to shortly acuminate; lateral sepals erect, tightly embracing the galea, sinus shallowly notched when viewed from the front, stepped when viewed from the side, free points linear-tapered, c. 2 mm long, not exceeding the galea; petals falcate. Labellum narrowly elliptic, 3–4 mm long, c. 1.5 mm wide, tip not visible through the sinus in the set position. Flowers Nov.–Mar.
GGr, EGL. SA, NSW, Tas. Widespread but apparently rare in Victoria in moist to wet habitats such as Buttongrass swamps, soaks and sedgelands, on moist sandy and peaty soil.
Characterised by the fleshy stems that elongate after flowering, long fleshy ovaries, shiny bright green and white flowers, mostly summer flowering and preference for swampy habitats.
