Dioicous. Specialised asexual propagules absent. Forming mats that give rise to erect thalli. Thallus 3–4-pinnate, with primary branches opposite, axes 10–30 (–70) mm long and 0.4–1 mm wide, elliptic in transverse section, with obtuse margin, (8–) 14–18 (–20) cells thick, without a notch at apex, with persistent elongate papillae; primary branches up to 10 mm long, the axis to 0.5 mm wide, with an acute to winged margin. Calyptra 2–4 mm long, with pachydermal cells scattered along calyptra and forming a smooth cap at apex.
OtP, OtR. Rare and localised in Victoria to the high rainfall areas of the Otways on wood along creek and around waterfalls. Also, Tasmania and New Zealand.
