Shrub 0.3–2.5 m high; stems glabrous or with very sparse hairs near inflorescence. Leaves narrowly to broadly elliptic or lanceolate, 7–75 mm long, 2–25 mm wide. Involucral bracts 4(–8), 5–16 mm long, 3–10 mm wide, green or partly reddish, glabrous or rarely minutely hairy outside, sometimes fringed, usually reflexed in fruit. Rachis usually elongating distinctly in fruit.  Flowers Oct.–Mar.

Brid, CVU, EGL, EGU, GipP, Glep, HFE, HNF, HSF, MonT, OtP, OtR, VAlp, VVP, WPro. Also SA, Qld, NSW, ACT, Tas. In wet mountain or gully forests up to about 1400 m altitude, mainly in southern half of Victoria.
