Corms 2–3 cm diam. Leaves 6–12, 30–80 cm long, 1–2 cm wide; apex acute. Inflorescence with scape terete, partly sheathed by leaves, few-branched; each branch 4–20-flowered, flexuose. Primary bracts dry and membranous, brown; basal ('outer') bract acute; distal ('inner') bract bifid. Flowers zygomorphic, red-orange. Perianth tube slightly decurved, 12–18 mm long; lobes 18–20 mm long, all spreading. Anthers exserted. Flowers Dec.–Apr.

*CVU, *EGL, *EGU, *GipP, *Glep, *HNF, *HSF, *OtP, *OtR, *Strz, *VVP. Also naturalised in SA, NSW, Tas. Persisting mainly around old gardens, settlements, railwav lines and roadsides in moist, cooler situations.

This hybrid is believed to be of horticultural origin, between C. aurea (Pappe ex Hook.) Planch. and C. pottsii (Baker) N.E. Br.
