Small trees or shrubs 0.8–4 m high; branchlets sparsely to densely tomentose to appressed sericeous; leaves glabrous; fruit 2.1–3.2 cm long, 1.3–2.5 cm wide; red-brown wood layer of inner valve face 1–2.5 mm wide. Flowers Jun.–Sep.

LoM, Wim, VVP, VRiv, MuF, GipP, OtP, Gold, CVU, GGr, DunT, EGL, EGU, WPro, HSF, HNF, OtR, Strz. Also SA (naturalised), NSW (native and naturalised), Tas (native and ?naturalised). Widespread and locally common in open forest, damp heath or dry scrubland, chiefly in hilly areas, on sandy loams or clayey soils, ranging from near sea-level to c. 300 m.
