Ruppia maritima
L.Perennial herb. Branches erect, up to 5(–8) cm long. Leaves up to 15 cm long, up to 0.5 mm wide; undamaged apex obtuse to subacute. Perennating swollen shoots absent. Inflorescence maturing below water surface on an axis usually less than 5(–10) cm long; axis uncoiled but often recurved in fruit, or 1–3 times loosely coiled. Carpels 2–5, initially subsessile, stalk elongating as carpels mature until it is much longer than, carpel. Fruiting carpel 2–4 long, 1–1.5 mm diam. Flowers and fruits Jan.
LoM, MuM, Wim, GleP, VVP, VRiv, GipP, OtP, WaP, DunT, NIS, EGL, WPro. All mainland States. Cosmopolitan. Occurs in freshwater, brackish or saline dams and lakes in the north and north-west, and apparently rare.
