Partially evergreen shrub to c. 1.5 m high; branchlets pubescent or glabrous. Leaves rhombic-lanceolate to rhombic-oblong, 2–8 cm long, 7–20 mm wide, margins biserrate, glabrous, sometimes pubescent on the lower surface, dark green above, bluish below, venation pinnate; petiole 4–7 mm long, glabrous. Flowers numerous in sessile umbels, terminal on short shoots. Sepals triangular, 1–1.5 mm long, persistent in fruit; petals 2.5–4 mm long, white; stamens numerous. Follicles 0.5–2 mm long, glabrous. Flowers spring.

Double-flowered forms are often grown in cultivation.
