Herbs 50–90 cm tall. Corm 1.5–2.0 cm diam., outer layers fibrous. Leaves solitary, basal. Inflorescence with scape unbranched, rarely 1-branched. Lower primary bracts to 15 cm long; distal primary bracts with inner one 10–14 cm long, outer one 7–10 cm long. Flowers yellow with deep yellow ‘centre’. Perianth parts free; outer perianth 3.5–5.0 cm long, narrowly obovate to spathulate, spreading; inner perianth 3–4 cm long, erect. Staminal filaments united in lower half; anthers 8–12 mm long. Ovary 20–30 mm long; style branches 12–18 mm long, crests c. 10 mm long.
EGL. Native to southern Africa. Known in Victoria from a single collection, from Club Terrace, in eastern Victoria, where it is sparingly established.
