Oenanthe
Perennial herbs, glabrous; stems erect or decumbent, branched, often rooting at lower nodes; roots fibrous. Leaves 1–3-pinnate or pinnatisect, sometimes reduced to a phyllode; petiole sheathing at base. Inflorescence a compound umbel, terminal or lateral; bracts absent or few, ovate to lanceolate or linear; rays many, stiff; bracteoles many. Flowers bisexual; sepals acute, persistent; petals obovate, apex inflexed; nectary conical; styles erect. Fruit oblong, ovoid, obconical or globose, terete or slightly flattened laterally; mericarps with obtuse, c. equal, corky ribs; carpophore absent.
About 40 species, from Eurasia and the mountains of tropical Africa; 2 species in Australia (1 native and 1 naturalised).
