Spreading annual herb to c. 20 cm high, loosely branched; stems often tinged violet. Leaves 20–40 mm long, green; leaflets distinctly articulate at base, oblong- to obovate-cuneate, 10–20 mm long, 3–10 mm wide, apex emarginate or rarely entire; common petiole distinctly winged. Sepals 5, ovate, 2–3 mm long, deflexed in fruit; petals 5, obovate, 3–4 mm long, apex rounded, yellow; stamens 10, filaments broad-winged in lower half, wings truncate at apex. Fruiting pedicels 3–5 mm long; fruit a 5-angled loculicidal capsule, more or less globose, 5–7 mm long, drooping, rounded at apex with a short point, often tinged violet; seeds 1 or 2 per cell, shiny. Flowers Jun.–Dec.

MuM, MSB, RobP, VRiv. All mainland states. In Victoria, confined to the far north-west where occasional in tussock grassland, mallee or woodland communities, mostly on clay or loamy clay soils particularly in saline areas.
