Stems 5–10 mm long. Leaves erect-spreading when moist, appressed when dry, lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, 0.6–1.3 mm long, 0.2–0.4 mm wide, usually cucullate at apices; apices acute; costae absent; margins entire, incurved; cells in apical half papillose, unistratose, irregular, 5–12.5 μm long, 3.5–9 μm wide; cells at base all rectangular, mostly 20–43 μm long, 5–10 μm wide. Pseudopodium 1.5–2.5 mm long. Capsules c. 0.5 mm long. Perigonial paraphyses absent. Perichaetial leaves convolute and sheathing. Turgid spores 44–50 μm diameter; shrivelled spores c. 32 μm diameter.
CVU, GGr, HNF, HFE, VAlp. Among exposed rocky outcrops in mountainous areas throughout the state (e.g. the Grampians, Mount Macedon, Victorian Alps and Mount Ellery). Also WA, NSW, ACT and Tas. New Zealand.
