Riccardia bipinnatifida
(Colenso) HewsonDioecious. Gemmae often produced on apical epidermal cells. In dense mats or lax in water. Thallus 2–3-pinnate, 1–3 cm long, 1–1.5 mm wide, biconvex to flat dorsally and convex ventrally in transverse section, with acute lateral edges, 4–8 cells thick, with a small notch at apex protected by ventral mucilage papillae which often persist, with smooth cuticle. Oil bodies more frequent in epidermal cells than internal cells, 1–3 (–4) per cell. Calyptra 2–3 mm long, with pachydermal cells scattered and in a loose terminal cluster.
VVP, GipP, GGr, EGL, WPro, HSF, OtR, Strz, VAlp. Widespread along and south of the Great Dividing Range in and beside water bodies from sea level to the alpine zone on rock, soil or wood. Also, Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania and New Zealand.
