Ditrichum brevirostre
(R.Br.bis) Broth.Dioicous. Loose to dense turves on soil. Stems 5–10 mm long, simple or singly branched. Leaves strongly falcate-secund, circinate, subulate from an ovate to elliptic base, 1–2 mm long, concave at base; apices acute; costae excurrent, occupying most of subula width; margins entire or weakly denticulate near apices, plane, without a distinct border; cells in the subula bistratose, linear, 13–26 μm long, 4–9 μm wide, smooth; cells of base unistratose, linear, 13–75 μm long, 2–13 μm wide. Setae 1–2 cm long, reddish-brown near base, becoming yellowish toward capsule. Capsules inclined, ovoid or shortly cylindric, symmetric, 1–1.5 mm long. Peristome irregularly split into two filaments. Operculae rostrate or oblique-rostrate from conic base, 0.25–0.5 mm long.
HSF, VAlp. Mostly in embankments of roads or creeks in montane forest or the alpine zone throughout the Victorian Alps. Also NSW, Tas and Macquarie Island. New Zealand.
