Fissidens dealbatus
Hook.f. & WilsonAsexual propagules absent. Loosely gregarious or scattered stems on soil, pale grey-green to dark green. Stems 4–8 mm long, unbranched, green, central strand absent, rhizoids near base only. Leaves lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, loosely crisped when dry, 1.5–2.5 mm long, 0.4–0.6 mm wide, flat; costa absent; apex acute. Dorsal laminae with entire margins or occasionally weakly crenulate or weakly dentate near apex, with a distinct border of 1–3 rows of narrower elongate cells; cells away from margin irregularly hexagonal, (25–) 40–80 (–125) μm long, 20–30 (–45) μm wide, smooth, becoming longer toward base. Vaginant laminae to 1/2–2/3 leaf length, almost closed to closed, margins entire, with a distinct border of 1–3 rows of narrower elongate cells. Autoicous or dioicous. Seta 1.5–5 mm long, colourless to pale yellow. Capsule ovate, ellipsoid to obconical, vertical, straight; theca 0.5–0.8 mm long. Calyptra smooth, mitrate. Operculum rostrate from a conic base, 0.2–0.5 mm long. Peristome teeth bifid.
VVP, GipP, OtP, HSF, OtR, Strz, HFE. In cool temperate rainforest or moist protected sites throughout southern Victoria. Also WA, QLD, NSW and Tas. New Zealand, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and Samoa.
