Schistidium flexifolium
(Hampe) OchyraAutoicous. Mats on wet rock. Stems 15–30 (–50) mm long, dark to light brown, covered in rhizoids near base, central strand absent or present. Leaves erecto-patent when moist, erect-appressed to somewhat curved when dry, ovate-lanceolate, (2–) 2.6–3.3 mm long, (0.6–) 0.7–1 mm wide, V-shaped, keeled, bistratose in apical half; costa subpercurrent to percurrent; apex acute, without a hair-point; margins entire, broadly revolute in basal 40–60%, otherwise plane; laminal cells isodiametric to short-oblong, 7–20 (–35) μm long, 5–11 μm wide, smooth. Seta to 0.5 mm long, yellow, smooth. Capsule broadly cylindric to ellipsoidal or ±hemispheric, (1–) 1.3–1.8 mm long. Calyptra cucullate or mitrate. Operculum oblique-rostrate from hemispheric base, 0.6–1 mm long. Peristome teeth pointing outwards when dry, entire.
Waterfalls, rocky creek beds and rocky creek edges subject to frequent inundation throughout the state at low altitude to alpine areas. Also SA, QLD, NSW, ACT and Tas. New Zealand.
