Rhizome short, erect, densely scaly. Fronds tufted. Lamina once pinnate; terminated by pinna or pinnately lobed at apex, margin entire or toothed; veins usually netted, areoles containing free veinlets. Sori borne on veinlets included inside areoles; indusium round, attached by central stalk; spores bilateral.
About 12 species, one widely naturalised around the world.
