Autoicous. Plants perennial, c. 3–5 mm tall, branching. Leaves broadly ovate, 0.1–0.5 mm long; costa subpercurrent to percurrent; margin entire to weakly crenulated; laminal cells quadrate to short-rectangular, in mid-leaf 10–20 μm long, 8–10 μm wide. Perichaetial leaves ovate, abruptly narrowed to a short subula, 1–1.9 mm long; lamina cells in mid-leaf irregularly rectangular to rhomboidal, mostly 25–80 μm long, 8–12 μm wide, shorter at margins. Capsules 340–450 μm diam.
Wim, VVP, VRiv, Gold, CVU, GGr, DunT, HSF. In dry sclerophyll forest or sometimes grassland and often along roadsides in central Victoria west to near Hamilton. Also WA, SA, NSW and Tas.
