ExellErect evergreen or semi-evergreen shrub or small tree to c. 6 m high; branches spreading, becoming pendent, pubescent. Leaves narrowly elliptic or obovate, 5–10 cm long, (1.5–)2.5–5 cm wide, base cuneate or obtuse, apex acuminate, upper surface dark green, glabrous, lower surface paler, initially villous, becoming glabrescent; petiole 5–9(–20) mm long; stipules caducous. Inflorescence a many-flowered cymose panicle; pedicle 1–2(–4) mm long, pubescent. Sepals 5, densely pubescent or glabrescent; petals 5, suborbicular, clawed, white. Pomes cup-shaped or subglobose, 5–9 mm diam., sparsely hairy, bright red or red-orange; seeds 2–4. Flowers Summer.
HSF. Also SA, NSW. Hybrid of garden origin with numerous cultivars, recorded in Victoria once in the Dandenong Ranges.
