Lasiospermum bipinnatum
(Thunb.) Druce CocoonheadErect to ascending perennials to c. 60 cm high; stems often rooting at some older nodes, sparsely pilose at growing points, otherwise glabrous. Leaves elliptic or ovate in outline, 30–80 mm long, 2-pinnatisect with c. 10 linear or slightly falcate segments per side, yellow-green, young leaves sparsely pilose, otherwise glabrous. Capitula radiate, solitary, saucer-shaped, 2–2.5 cm diam.; peduncles 10–30 cm long, glabrous, with several ovate-lanceolate bracteoles; involucral bracts oblong to ovate, to 3 mm long, 2-seriate. Ray florets 15–20, white, ligules 10–15 mm long; disc florets 130–150, 3.5–4.5 mm long, yellow. Cypselas narrowly obloid, slightly flattened, c. 4 mm long, covered by dense long tan-coloured woolly hairs. Flowers most of the year.
Naturalised in Tas. Native to South Africa.
Known in Victoria from a single collection from Ballarat taken in 1917.
