Poa meionectes
VickeryTufted glabrous perennial, culms erect, conspicuously longer than the leaves, to c. 90 cm high. Leaves very fine, often curled, lightly to strongly scabrous, rarely virtually smooth, often somewhat shining; sheath pale or purplish; blade inrolled, angular, the nerves commonly prominently ridged, to c. 20 cm long and 0.3 mm diam., often expanded into a small knob-like swelling at the base; ligule truncate, firmly membranous, c. 0.5 mm long. Inflorescence a sparse, pyramidal panicle to c. 12 cm long and 8 cm wide. Spikelets 3–5-flowered, 3–6 mm long, green or purplish; glumes 3-nerved, often relatively narrow and almost linear, 1.5–2 mm long, the upper slightly larger than the lower; lemma prominently 5-nerved, 2–3.5 mm long, shortly hairy along the keel and lateral nerves near the base, or occasionally wholly glabrous; web absent or rudimentary. Flowers Sep.–Nov.
Gold, EGL, EGU, HNF, MonT, HFE, VAlp. Also SA, NSW. Occasional to locally common in cooler, forested areas at up to c. 800 m altitude (e.g. Cann River valley, Bonang, Betka River near Mallacoota).
Close to P. clivicola but leaves generally finer and less rigid, and the glumes smaller.
