Annual or biannual herbs, glabrous or basally pubescent with simple and stalked stellate hairs. Leaves sessile or petiolate; margins usually dentate, sinuate or pinnatifid, rarely entire. Inflorescence a corymbose raceme. Sepals erect, dimorphic; petals usually yellowish, clawed, apex obtuse; stamens 6. Fruit pedicellate, linear, quadrangular, elongate (more than 3 times as long as broad), dehiscent; style capitate, slightly bilobed; valves with prominent midvein; seeds in 2 rows per locule.
2 species from Europe, Asia, northern Africa, and North America; 1 species naturalised in Australia.
