Shrubs or small trees, stems, leaves and sepals with peltate scales. Leaves alternate, simple, margins entire. Inflorescences axillary, cymose or flowers solitary. Flowers bisexual, 5-merous; pedicels with a pair of bracteoles; sepals free; petals imbricate, free, or rarely, united (not in Victoria), deciduous; stamens 10, free, filaments glabrous or stellate-hairy, anthers slightly retuse; carpels 5, 1-locular, free, shortly beaked; basal parts of styles fused to adaxial angle of carpels, stigma scarcely differentiated from style. Fruit follicular, not transversely ridged, apices shortly beaked; seeds 1 (rarely 2) per follicle, released explosively with elastic endocarp.
A genus of seven species, one in WA, the remainder in eastern States.
