Ovary and drupe with short, velvety hair. Flowers mainly Sep.
Gold. Also naturalised WA, SA, Qld (naturalised), NSW. Native to east Asia, numerous cultivars grown for their edible fruits, plants occasionally establishing in Victoria, presumably from discarded seeds.
Due to the wide range of morphological variation exhibited in the cultivars of both recognised varieties of this species, the only reliable character to distinguish these varieties is the presence or absence of hair on the ovary and fruit. See species profile for full description.
