Solenogyne
Perennial herbs with short, unbranched, vertical rhizomes and fleshy roots. Leaves alternate, rosetted, crenate or serrate. Capitula solitary, broadly hemispherical, each on a few-bracteate, unbranched axillary peduncle; involucral bracts 2–4-seriate, subequal, herbaceous; receptacle flat to slightly convex. Outer florets female, in 1–few series, corollas tubular with an oblique orifice, style branches subulate, papillose; disc florets functionally male, fewer than females, 4–5-lobed, anthers obtuse at base, with short, acute apical appendages. Cypselas compressed, with thickened marginal ribs, otherwise smooth and glabrous; pappus absent.
An endemic Australian genus of 3 species; 2 naturalised in New Zealand.
