Rhizomatous perennials. Leaves all cauline, blade flat. Inflorescence a loose or dense, silky-hairy panicle. Spikelets 2–10-flowered, the lowermost male or sterile; glumes shorter than spikelet; florets articulate above glumes; lemma narrowly tapered to an awn-like apex; callus with long silky hairs; stamens 3.
3 species, cosmopolitan; 2 in Australia, 1 in Victoria.
