Austrostipa gibbosa

Leaves glabrous or sparsely pubescent, sometimes scabrous; blade flat, channelled or inrolled to 30 cm long and 5 mm broad when flattened; ligule to 0.8 mm long. Inflorescence an open panicle to 40 cm long. Glumes 11–17 mm long, green, acuminate, membranous, the lower 1–4 mm longer than upper; lemma with a conspicuous dorsal hump near apex, 4.5–6.5 mm long, maturing to dark reddish brown or black, granular, lightly covered with semi-appressed white to golden hairs, often with a bald patch just below the apex; coma erect, 0.6–2 mm long; callus 1–1.5 mm long; awn eccentric, strongly twice bent, 25–35 mm long, 5–8 mm to the first bend; palea about equal to lemma, glabrous. Flowers Oct.–Jan.
