Dioicous. Dense flat turfs on soil. Stems 5–10 mm tall, innovating below perichaetia. Leaves spreading to reflexed when moist, curled and twisted around the stem when dry, narrowly triangular; apex acuminate; costa excurrent in a short arista; margins strongly revolute to apex; laminal cells in apical half quadrate to hexagonal, isodiametric, 10–14 μm wide, papillose; basal cells quadrate, becoming rectangular in a small patch adjacent to costa, hyaline, smooth. Seta c. 6 mm long, reddish brown. Capsules cylindric, 0.8–1.5 mm long. Operculum rostrate from conic base.
MuM, Wim, VVP, GipP, Gold. Known in Victoria from Lake Crosby in the north-west and possibly Horsham. Also WA, SA, NSW and Tas. Europe, south-west Africa, northern and southern Africa.
