Orianthera
C.S.P.Foster & B.J.ConnHerbs or subshrubs. Leaves opposite, sometimes much reduced, petiolate or sessile; stipules interpetiolar, entire, membranous. Inflorescence terminal but often appearing axillary when borne on short lateral shoots, variously cymose, 1–15-flowered. Flowers bisexual, 5-merous; ovary superior; calyx deeply divided, lobes acute, margin membranous; corolla campanulate, white (in Victoria) or yellow, lobes imbricate in bud, finally spreading, obtuse to rounded; stamens inserted at sinus between corolla lobes, filaments shorter than anthers, not exceeding corolla; lobes; ovaries 2-locular, with up to 10 ovules per locule; stigma capitate or bilobed. Fruit a septicidal capsule, with 2 carpels almost completely separating, usually black, woody; seeds virtually smooth to papillate.
13 species, endemic to Australia, occurring in all States except Qld and Tas.
