Asexual reproduction by rhizoidal gemmae. Turfs. Plants to 10 mm tall, yellow-green. Leaves spreading when moist, contorted when dry, ligulate to spathulate, 1.1–2.5 mm long, 0.45–0.9 mm wide; apex acute, shortly apiculate; costa weak, percurrent to subpercurrent; margin sharply crenulated to irregularly dentate toward apex, plane; cells in apical half hexagonal, isodiametric, 18–30 μm wide, smooth or pluripapillose, gradually transitioning to basal cells; basal cells rectangular, 17–40 μm long, 17–40 μm wide, smooth, chlorophyllose, not forming a distinct zone. Sporophytes unknown in Australia.
MuM. Known in Victoria from a single record from the margin of the salt Pink Lake near Dimboola in the states west. Also NT, SA, NSW and Norfolk Island. New Zealand, Hawaii, USA, Mexico, the Caribbean, Bolivia, Brazil, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, south-east Asia and Malesia.
