Lathyrus odoratus
L. Sweet PeaClimbing or scrambling annual herb; stems to c. 2 m long, tuberculate-hairy, angular, winged. Leaflets ovate, elliptic or oblong, 2.5–6 cm long, 1–3.5 cm wide, hairy, apices acute or obtuse, sometimes mucronate; tendrils usually 5 or more; petiole 2–3 cm long, winged; stipules lanceolate, semi-sagittate, 12–25 mm long. Flowers usually 1–3 in racemes 7–16 cm long; pedicel 1–2 cm long; peduncle 7–20 cm long; bract narrow-triangular, c. 1 mm long; calyx 10–12 mm long, 5-veined, hairy, teeth more or less equal, longer than tube; corolla 2–3.5 cm long, variously coloured; standard suborbicular; wings shorter; keel obtuse; style curved, narrowly winged. Pod oblong, 3–7 cm long, 9–12 mm wide, hairy, reticulate-veined; seeds 4–10, globose, c. 5 mm long, minutely rugose, black. Flowers Aug.–Nov.
